New VapeOutbreak.org Website Promotes Tobacco Free CA, Warning About Vaping Issues
Tobacco Free CA, which appears to be part of the California Tobacco Control Program by the California Department of Health, features a webpage warning about the vape outbreak. The California Tobacco Control Program’s mission, as described on its website, is to improve the health of all Californians by reducing illness and premature death from use of tobacco products.
According to the post by Tabaco Free CA, a severe lung illness arising from vaping is a public health outbreak, and that it has caused 1-2 deaths per week. It also identifies the information that is known, which includes:
Products containing THC, specifically those obtained off the street or from family members, friends, or illicit dealers, are connected to most of the cases
- Such products have a major role in the outbreak
- It is strongly recommended to refrain from vaping until the investigation is complete
- Those who decide to vape THC products should purchase the products only from a licensed cannabis dealer
The webpage also features a spotlight statement by Governor Newsom, which reads
“We must take immediate action to meet the urgency behind this public health crisis.”
In addition, the post also indicates that the average of the vape patient is 24 years old and that the illness is mostly linked to products containing THC that are obtained off the street or informal sources.
Those who visit the webpage will also find important resources, and videos of those impacted by the vape illness. In addition, there is a help line that they can contact if they need help quitting. If users are looking for additional resources, there is also a link to another webpage called NoButts.org.
