Pharmacists Now Have Access to CBD Website, Thanks to NCPA
- Samples Will Be Available Through The Website After Going Through Third-Party Testing.
- The new website is the collaboration between PRS and NCPA.
CBD became legal with the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill, but there is still plenty of information that even pharmacies don’t know about the substance. To help educate the masses, the NCPA is starting with pharmacists, giving them an online resource that shows verified CBD products and details about the industry itself.
Pharmacy compliance and brokerage firm PRS is partnering with NCPA on the resource, which has been named the NCPA CBD Source. The website is straightforward and clear, informing pharmacists of exactly what they need to know about the products to “make educated decisions about the growing CBD marketplace.”
B. Douglas Hoey, RPh., the CEO of NCPA, stated that there are already many pharmacies that are opting to sell these types of products as a response to the demand of patients. Since they are “the medication expert,” it only makes sense for the pharmacists to also be “the source of truth.” Hoey added,
“Pharmacy owners want to be able to answer their patients’ questions and recommend products where they can check their certificate of analysis. The new CBD Source goes a step further and will be sending product samples to an independent lab to verify strength and product integrity.”
Harry Lattanzio, RPh, the president of PRS, stated that the pharmacists in these community need to also be “the community’s CBD expert.” While CBD clearly should be found in pharmacies, Lattanzio expressed that the industry is still “full of misinformation,” due to its youthful age. He also noted,
“PRS and NCPA have combined resources, done the research, and sifted through the claims to create a comprehensive platform that community pharmacists can trust for CBD education, marketing, and products.”
The new NCPA CBD Source, supported by PRS, will work in the same way that other shopping websites do, but with additional resources to educate consumers on CBD. It also includes marketing tools for pharmacist and the opportunity to review any of the products that they offer. Any samples provided on the website will go through testing to examine the levels of CBD, THC, and other cannabinoids, though the testing is performed by a third-party lab.
The NCPA stated,
“While the NCPA CBD Source will include experts who pharmacists may call and ask about buying, selling, and marketing, pharmacists are also encouraged to familiarize themselves with local, state, and federal laws governing the sale of CBD products.”
Reports from The Brightfield Group indicate that the CBD industry in the US alone is expected to be valued at $22 billion in the next five years. Presently, big chains like CVS and Walgreens are dominating the space.
