Southern University Makes History as First Black College to Partner with Ilera and Launch New CBD Line

On January 30, 2020, it was reported that the Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center in Louisiana partnered with Ilera Holistic Healthcare to launch a CBD product line called ALAFIA. This has garnered the attention of many consumers, as Southern University makes history as the first black college to achieve such an endeavor.

Since the launch, a ribbon cutting ceremony supposedly took place at the H&W Drug Store Dispensary in New Orleans, celebrating the first of the sales of ALAFIA. Speaking regarding this endeavor is the President of the Southern University System, Ray L. Belton who shared that this is one of several milestones that the college has achieved. In particular, he said:

“Southern has been a leader in agriculture and the sciences for 140 years while staying true to its mission of access,” adding that their success has been reflected the new CBD line.

Chairman of Ilera Holistic Healthcare, Osagie Imasogie, has also expressed delight in the milestone, while emphasizing on their partnership with the college. It was shared that:

“[The] team created a superior hemp derived product with patients in mind. We are proud of this partnership […] and look forward to announcing the next phase of this ground-breaking rollout.”

Speaking of patients, WAFB 9 also reported on this new launch, in which Owner of Capitol Wellness Solutions, Randy Mire, shared that those “who really have diagnosable conditions, [ALAFIA] is accessible for them.”

As previously emphasized, this is deemed, “A starting point,” noting that “After they start a product like this, many [consumers] need medical marijuana and at that point, they would visit with their doctor.”

CEO of Ilera Holistic Healthcare, Chanda Macias, is as excited as many of the players involved simply because it has always been her firm’s vision to support, “patient access and affordability.” Here’s what she had to say:

“Patients now have the ability to purchase ALAFIA over the counter without a prescription anywhere it is available.”

What does ALAFIA currently offer?

ALAFIA currently offers two PURE CBD tinctures and two Full-Spectrum CBD tinctures. Both groups of solutions come in two strengths: 500mg ($40) and 1000mg ($80). As for the claims made, the duo has ensured that the tinctures have been laboratory tested and verified. Additionally, this is just the beginning of the partnership, as consumers can expect different types of CBD products hitting the market.

ALAFIA will be available all across Louisiana, including:

  • H&W Drug Store (New Orleans, LA 70130)
  • Capitol Wellness Solutions (Baton Rouge, LA 70809)
