Millions of people face anxiety every day, but mental health is still a conversation that typically is pushed to the side. However, Malika Haqq is one of the celebrities who is opening up about her own experience with anxiety, and how she’s been able to manage it. The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star recently spoke with PEOPLE, revealing that her best method for treating anxiety is completely natural.
While Haqq states that she feels that most of the issues with anxiety could be in her head, she explained, “Dealing with stress is real for people – the daily struggles of trying to figure things out.” Through the years of spending time in the public eye, Haqq has become more comfortable addressing these personal issues. She commented, “What I’ve learned is the best way to handle or deal with your discomforts in life is to be honest about them.”
To treat her own anxiety, Haqq was originally prescribed Xanax, following therapy and meditation.
“It isn’t that those things didn’t help me, but I actually needed to be on medication. But the older I’ve gotten, I’ve gotten wiser and more protective of myself and the things I put in my body,”
she clarified.
Eventually, Haqq found a CBD wellness brand in Boston called Beam, which offers full-spectrum, pharmaceutical-grade CBD remedies that contain no THC. While THC and CBD come from the same plants, CBD is a substance that will give all of the therapeutic benefits of hemp and cannabis but will not create the psychoactive effect. Research is still being done in the industry, but many studies have indicated that CBD can help with inflammation, pain, and even skin conditions.
Researchers are still examining the effect that CBD has on anxiety and epilepsy. However, it is worth noting that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently approved an epilepsy drug with CBD, though it is only approved for use in two pediatric epilepsy conditions.
Haqq said expressed that her experience with CBD has been positive, and that it has been “a dream come true” to find a holistic alternative to classic medication. Since incorporating CBD into her routine, she has stopped using Xanax for her anxiety, using Beam’s products in its place.
She said,
“A lot of anxiety is very much about the way you process things in your head. So, for me, I actually am processing that I’m doing better and feeling better because I’m doing something that’s better for myself. It’s crazy, but the truth is it really does help.”
Haqq hasn’t stopped at relieving her own anxiety. Instead, she’s become an unofficial advocate as “the girl who is literally dropping CBD oil into people’s hands.”
