- CBD is starting to show up in different hair care products.
- Evidence that CBD can help with hair regrowth and hair strength is limited.
CBD is growing exponentially in popularity, and the health and beauty industry has decided to take advantage of that. First, the skincare sector rose up, claiming the formula is able to create a youthful appearance. Now, the hair care sector is trying to cash in, though the lack of verified trials and research is creating a substantial hurdle.
While some of the beauty community is waiting patiently for more studies to arise, others like Dr. Hempster, Hempz, and Emera are already adding CBD to their products in the United States. In Europe, the hair care sector has seen India, Waterman’s, and BamBeautiful add to their product line with CBD. Along with CBD, many of these formulas are still sticking with ingredients that more people are familiar with, like keratin, biotin, and collagen.
In Latin America, there have been many new launches of CBD skincare lines, considering how liberal the local regulations are for cannabis use. Clearly, the hair care industry is sticking around, using CBD in their remedies with a variety of claims. Cosmetics Design recently published an article about haircare products using CBD, attending an event in Medellin, Colombia where many new beauty products are being launched. Many of these product launches ended up including formulas that use CBD as well, which should be a testament to how widespread this ingredient is becoming.
Barba Roja was one of the companies that launched their product at the event as well, thanks to the brand founder Santiago Campuzano Hoyos. He stated, during an interview, that he had spent 18 months researching how CBD can positively impact the hair, as well as beards and scalps. In his findings, he discovered that there is more and more evidence of how CBD promotes hair growth, improves the protection of hair, and nourishes the scalp.
Many other hair care brands are making similar claims for their remedies, focusing on the nutritional benefits of CBD oil. Realistically, these ingredients all contribute to the hydration of the hair shaft, which helps it to resist breakage and defend the hair against damage that naturally comes from pollution in the environment. It also helps with damage that can be self-imposed on styling.
Apart from general care, there are some products coming out with claims that CBD can help with the regrowth of hair, in circumstances where the loss cannot be attributed to hereditary causes. While there is more and more evidence coming out, proving how effective CBD can be independently may take a little while.
