Orange Peel CBD? Japan’s Hiro International Details Orange Peel-Derived CBD Oil

Launching a new brand of THC-free CBD oil products. Hiro International in Japan reports that it's CBD is extracted from neither hemp nor cannabis like all other CBD extracts on the market. Hiro International is extracting their CBD from US-imported orange peels.

According to a Hanf Magazin report, the Japan-based company launched the new CBD Oil products at the Cosme Tokyo Cosmetic Trade Show. The company’s spokesperson, Ryousuke Koseki, told the magazine that the zero-THC CBD Oil could be the solution to strict rules in place that regulate THC content in cannabis-derived CBD products. According to Koseki, this THC-free brand will expand the CBD market into regions with strict regulations.

CBD products are not as widely used in Japan despite being legally accepted for human consumption. The unpopularity of CBD in Japan has been attributed to traces of THC in most of the products in the market. THC is highly illegal in Japan, with the laws completely outlawing the substance. The CBD market in Japan grew at almost 100% from 2017 to 2018, according to a report by Hemp Industry Daily. Nevertheless, Koseki noted that due to many CBD products with traces of THC, the Japanese CBD market has yet to reach its full potential. The market is expected to grow significantly by 2024.

Hiro International has developed prototypes using the orange peel-extracted CBD oil in body lotions, make-up removers, lip balms and hair care products. The company was founded in 1984 as fruit juices and importers. Hiro International discovered the presence of CBD in orange peels that are often thrown out as waste. This Orange CBD extract has fundamentally the same structure as hemp and cannabis-derived CBD Oil. Koseki via CBDWire said,

“Orange-derived CBD Oil has the same ingredients as hemp CBD, similar effects, and additionally, zero danger in terms of THC intake and legality. This discovery offers a different CBD story, which is better than the currently standing CBD narrative to the consumers.”

He noted that the company’s new THC free CBD products have garnered a lot of interest in the market, but Hiro International has not yet decided whether they would venture into the overseas markets with the CBD products.
