Mycrene Terpene: Discover the Terpenoid Entourage Effect Health Benefits of Mycrene
Those who use CBD may experience what is known as the “entourage effect,” which occurs due to the terpenes in the formula. The entourage effect is a sense of calm and relaxation. Terpenes are aromatic molecules and cannabis is said to have around 200 of them.
The various types of terpenes have different scents and they are often responsible for hemp’s sweet, earthy, pine-like, or fruity smell and taste. Though there are many different types of terpenes, this post will focus on one called Mycrene.
What is Mycrene?
Mycrene, also known as β-myrcene, naturally occurs in fruits and other food substances such as by laurel leaves, lemongrass, hops, mangoes, and basil. It also occurs in a number of cannabis strains. According to a post by Leafy, there are a number of potential effects and benefits associated with Mycrene and they are:
- Sedative properties
- Anti-inflammatory
- Pain relief
- Calming
Keep in mind that these are general benefits – whether one experiences them depends on a case by case basis, the amount of the myrcene in the hemp, and the hemp strain. There are a number of hemp strains that are recognized for having a pronounced concentration of Mycrene, but like the benefits, they depend upon the quality of the hemp and the grower. The main strains that may feature a higher concentration of Mycrene are:
- White Widow
- Himalayan Gold
- Pure Kish
There are also a number of studies out there that have researched the impact of Mycrene on mice. The studies are mixed and nonconclusive. Therefore, those who use hemp and rely on Mycrene’s properties for certain effects should be aware that there is no conclusive evidence. Again, any impact is on an individual and case-by-case basis.
Further, those who choose a hemp product should take heed of what is in it, including the types and level of terpenes in the formula. This way, users can make more targeted decisions for their needs.
