GB Sciences Louisiana Partners Will Now Sell Cannabis Products at Nine Licensed Pharmacies

For the most part, cannabis product sales have been limited to dispensaries across the United States. However, GB Sciences Louisiana is seeking to break the mold with their medical cannabis products, created through a collaboration with LSU AgCenter’s Therapeutic Cannabis Program. Now, instead of marketing through a dispensary, GB Sciences is making history as they provide their products through the state’s nine licensed pharmacies to qualified patients. In doing so, they’ve created the first time that patients have legal cannabis under the law.

John Davis, the president of GB Sciences Louisiana, said,

“This is a watershed moment for our company and the State of Louisiana, reflecting many years of research and development by GB Sciences into the cannabis plant’s biopharmaceutical applications. For the first time, medical cannabis patients in Louisiana have access to safe, tested products with formulations designed to improve their health and wellbeing.”

The first products that will come from GB Sciences Louisiana is sublingual tinctures, which are available in 30mL bottles. During the first release, patients have the option of:

  • THC-Rich (300mg THC per 30mL bottle)
  • CBD-Rich (1200mg CBD and 60mg THC per 30mL bottle)
  • Balanced 1:1 (150mg THC and 150mg CBD per 30mL bottle)

In order to get any of these formulations, the patient will need to have one of the qualifying conditions and must get a recommendation from a physician. The conditions include:

The LSU Vice President for Agriculture, Bill Richardson, commented that they were “excited” about the benefits that patients stand to gain from this new availability of cannabis from their pharmacies. He added that they are hoping that this new opportunity will allow them to “understand the full potential of this medicinal plant.”

Due to the Alison Neustrom Act, which was passed in 2015 by the state legislature, the collaboration between the LSU AgCenter and GB Sciences Louisiana allows the former to be one of the two licensees for therapeutic cannabis.
