First CBD Products from Colombia Will Soon Be Available to Purchase in UK

  • Colombia recently exported CBD products to the United Kingdom as a food supplement.
  • Cannabis in Colombia is classified as either psychoactive or non-psychoactive.

The CBD industry is a growing endeavor around the world, and the United Kingdom doesn’t intend to be left behind. According to reports from Hemp Industry Daily, sourced from the Marijuana Business Daily International website, the UK was recently the recipient of imported CBD products from Colombia. These products will soon be available in the UK and other countries in the European Union, says Clever Leaves.

These products were shipped as food supplements, clearing customs through the Heathrow Airport in London on July 31st. Interestingly, there’s no legal protection in most regions when selling CBD products as food. However, in the UK, it appears that authorities are a little more relaxed, allowing CBD products to sell under the condition that no THC is present. The products only have a low THC content as raw material, though their CBD levels are quite high, which could be due to the fact that hemp farmers are not permitted to harvest the flower.

Colombia has a much different way of classifying their products that North American practices. In North America, there’s differentiating factors between hemp and marijuana, due to the current laws. However, in Colombia, the cannabis products are divided into “psicoactivo” (psychoactive) and “no psicoactivo” (nonpsychoactive). Less than 1% of the product contains THC.

Pharmacielo, which is a cannabis company that mainly operates in Colombia while being based in Canada, may soon be exporting CBD as well. On July 25th, the company “completed the necessary permitting process required to enable Colombia’s first commercial explore and sale of psychoactive (CBD) isolate.”

There’s no information yet on when the first products will be shipped from this brand. However, production capacity has already been boosted, according to statements from Pharmacielo.

In order for companies to use their own cannabis crops as raw material in the manufacturing of CBD isolate or other CBD products, they must be licensed, and registered genetics are required. Still, none of the formulas require a prescription to purchase or use.
