New Association Between Recent Cannabis Use and Acute Ischemic Stroke Study Released

One recent study looked at the impact between cannabis use and acute ischemic strokes.

The study concluded that,

“Consistent with some studies, this study shows that recent cannabis use is not an independent risk factor for ischemic stroke. Further studies utilizing urine toxicology tests with a larger sample size should be done.”

Essentially, there may not be a link for the development of ischemic strokes, more research is needed.

WeedMaps also looked at the study and features comment by Dr. Bonni Goldstein, the medical director at Canna-Centers Wellness & Education, a medical advisor to WeedMaps, and author of Cannabis Revealed. She shared with WeedMaps, “The studies that come out on the dangers of cannabis have many issues in terms of direct causation.” She continued, “It is extremely difficult to separate out the vast number of variables that confound these types of studies.”

Heart and Stroke also addresses the issue in an article titled Cannabis, heart disease and stroke. The article indicates that there “is currently little high-quality scientific evidence about the impact of recreational cannabis use on heart conditions and stroke.” Cannabis is illegal under federal law and is classified as a Schedule I substance.

Ultimately, though there are some studies that do show a link, there are others that do not. At a minimum, it is good for men and women to understand the potential consequences that marijuana use may have.
