Washington State Cannabis Board Looks for Possible Home Delivery Bill Approval

Home delivery is not in the distant future for small licensed growers operating less than 2,000 square feet of cultivation space. This is seen as a difficulty for small business owners that are struggling to compete with larger companies. The prices have been reduced due to oversupply and the Washington market is looking to boost licensed growers’ participation. With that said, legislation is preparing for the 2020 session. The alternatives are small farm growth as well as open collective retail.

This open collective retail includes delivery, on-site sales and a collective retail model. This is expected to be an overhaul of the Washington cannabis industry. There is also a push for business development and patient access. It is important to look towards the future and set long-term goals. The Liquor and Cannabis Board is supportive of this change. With the ongoing debate of social equity, licensing, cultivation business growth, and a review of seed-to-sale tracking. There is also talks of an audited tracking protocol.

The year of 2020 will be a significant year for the Washington cannabis market. It will truly be a market for future developments over time. Many businesses would benefit from home delivery, but it is very strict and very expensive and so it is important to continue to monitor this issue.
