Pyxus (PYX), Cornell University Form an Alliance to Study Hemp CBD Production

With a vision to reimagine the science of agriculture, Pyxus International has recently joined forces with Cornell University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences in an attempt to fill in the voids within CBD-focused hemp production.

According to a press release dated Tuesday, August 27, 2019, the duo’s coming together stems from their shared passion for providing hemp growers and processors accurate data and informed awareness of cultivation, while ensuring that potential risks associated with said activities are reduced to a minimal. This partnership will also serve as fuel to their knowledge regarding CBD and hemp.

Speaking regarding this matter is the Executive VP of Global Specialty Products at Pyxus, Bryan Mazur, who not only expressed the company’s dedication to moving forward within the cultivation business, but also their eagerness in being able to partake with Cornell. In particular, he said:

“We are eager to learn from Cornell’s expertise and research in this field and are excited that this partnership will eventually be part of an even larger Pyxus initiative with additional partners.”

As per a Professor of the Plant Breeding sand Genetics at Cornell’s, Larry Smart, this partnership will serve as a foundation to building a “knowledge base” that will help eliminate informed decision-making.

He further highlighted the current lack of CBD production manuals, and how there are some that exist for hemp-derived grain and fiber. This lacking factor is expected to go away with this research and Smart appears to be hopeful that both U.S. processors and farmers will be free of knowledge gaps.
