[Breaking] New President Donald Trump Comments on State Marijuana Legalization

President Donald Trump and his administration faced a question from Steven Nelson, a White House reporter at the DC Examiner about allowing each US State to create their own cannabis regulations. Nelson posed the question of whether cannabis will be federally legalized. Nelson tweeted about the encounter with President Trump.

Trump responded,

“We’re going to see what’s going on. It’s a very big subject and right now we are allowing states to make that decision,” Trump said. “A lot of states are making that decision, but we’re allowing states to make that decision.”

Here is the short video clip (starting at the time the question was asked by Mr. Nelson):

NORML Political Director Justin Strekal shared with Marijuana moment,

“The reiteration of a non-enforcement policy from the president is a clear sign that states should continue to defy the federal government when it comes to marijuana prohibition. Congress should swiftly move pending legislation when it returns from the August recess to remove cannabis from the Controlled Substances Act and provide the legal relief needed to those individuals and businesses who are struggling under our nations cruel policy of criminalization.”

This all comes on the heels of more Trump-related marijuana news too, when surgeon general issued a stark warning to pregnant women and the younger crowd against the use of cannabis even though recent data has shown that the youth has reduced marijuana use in states where legalization has occurred.

And to throw in a bit of President Trump history with the up and coming cannabis industry, this isn't the first time he has echoed these softer sentiments of marijuana legalization where he said broader regulatory rules should be issued state-by-state back on his 2016 campaign trial.

All of this just means one more thing in the broader scope of things,  we are one step closer to marijuana legalization and a booming CBD legal landscape. Will the hopeful 2020 President de-schedule cannabis under the Controlled Substances Act by executive order akin to Nixon going to China, Trump turns to weed as his ace up the sleeve? In theory, Trump could eliminate weed from the prohibited drugs list with a stroke of his pen.

While not an ounce of evidence is circulating to support this notion in full, today's new Donald Trump comments from the forty-fifth President are a step in the right direction as some would argue it would be an exception political ploy for him going into next year's upcoming election and suffocate one of the biggest ‘advantages' the Democratic campaign has on him.

While not wanting to go down the rabbit hole of politics in great detail, one would think Trump can stand to gain many conservative Republicans and strike a cord with the millennials and minorities with pro-legalization building blocks and an anti-legalization foundation wiped clean. All of this with minimal risk as the future of legalizing cannabis is seemingly inevitable.
