Ionization Labs May Have a Solution to USDA’s Potency Testing via Its Cann-ID CBD Identity Platform

The USDA, as well as state agriculture departments, have been struggling to establish testing methods that can reliably determine THC levels in cannabis.

While both legal hemp and illegal marijuana have THC, hemp only can have trace amounts below 0.3%, and illegal marijuana can have any level higher than that. To help with these issues, Ionization Labs formally offered to the authority to assess the current testing methods for free, aiming to help differentiate between these crops, according to reports from PRWeb.

The Cann-ID (cannabinoid identification) solution has the ability to test for 14 cannabinoids, including THCA, THC delta 9, delta 8, CBD, and CBDA. The hardware takes a few minutes to evaluate the sample, rather than hours or even weeks, with the use of HPLC (high-performance liquid chromatography).

Industry experts consider HPLC to be the “gold standard” to testing potency, and it can detect to 50 PPM (parts-per-million), or .05 LOQ, which is below what is necessary to measure 0.3% THC levels.

Co-founders of Ionization Labs, Alex Andrawes and Cree Crawford, commented that they wanted to make sure that the USDA was aware of this solution that could help their efforts. The twosome stated that they were offering “the opportunity for a first-hand demonstration and a free testing unit to put through the paces.”

The Cann-ID turnkey subscription solution could ultimately support compliance with the government, as well as research/development, as the authority continues to work on simplifying commerce for hemp. With the right tools to identify the levels of THC and other cannabinoids, law enforcement agents can quickly and effectively analyze the products they find without needing much training to do so. This option is affordable, accurate, and helpful to maintaining compliance with current laws.
