Marijuana Legalization in Indiana for 2020? Will the Hoosier State Go Green?

According to a report by WishTV, two Indiana lawmakers are optimistic that the state legislature could legalize marijuana in 2020.

Republican Jim Lucas stated,

“There are just a whole spectrum of benefits that this brings to people. A better quality of life and, not just that, but significantly less side-effects than many of the prescription medications they’re taking now.”

Lucas also stated of Acting County Prosecutor Ryan Mears, who had announced that his office no longer intends to prosecute adults possessing under one ounce of marijuana when that is their most serious charge,

“God bless that man. I want to buy him a steak dinner. Anything he wants at St. Elmo’s or whatever restaurant in Indianapolis. What he did, he is going to force the conversation at the Statehouse that should’ve been had years ago.”

Senator Karen Tallian also supports legalization in 2020. She stated

“Last week, at the Criminal Corrections Committee, the state prosecutors association told us that, last year, there were 22,000 arrests for marijuana possession. So, let’s start there, let’s get rid of that.” She continued, “We have people all over who want to start processing hemp. They want to start making CBD oil,” Tallian said. “It says you’re supposed to have a license, but there’s nobody in charge of issuing licenses.”

Earlier, TimesofCBD reported on the hemp smoking ban possibility of the hoosier state as well but the judge ruled it unconstitutional.  Also the prosecutor of the state is on record stating the stopping of simple marijuana possession cases. As the federal legal limbo status continues, Indiana may be one of the last states to usher in the green rush era but for now, hoosiers should be happy with the Hemp Farm Bill and CBD's status in Indiana.
