Independent Tests by Leafreport Show CBD Drink Label Inaccuracies

Leafreport, a CBD watchdog, recently carried out an independent laboratory test on various CBD beverages on the market. Canalysis Laboratories tested a total of 22 products with the primary goal of educating consumers about the discrepancies in product quality and labeling.

According to Canalysis' test results, each of the 22 CBD beverages had an inaccurate amount of CBD included. Some of the key findings of the test included:

12 out of the 22 products (54%) had minimal CBD than the one stated on the label.
Two products did not have any trace of CBD.
81% of the products (18 beverages) contained 10% more or less CBD than what is labeled.
Fourteen products (64%) contained 40% more or less CBD than advertised.
Four products (18%) received an excellent rating. It is because their CBD levels were 10% within the claimed amount.

Overall, these tests results were a severe blow to the overall reputation of these products, with the majority containing far less, and even zero CBD. The broader implications of this are more disconcerting, with other, more renowned CBD brands not having a chance of scoring better on the test than lesser-known companies.

According to the head of product at Leafreport, Lital Shafir, the test results are in-line with their expectations. He adds that it is not easy to formulate or contain small amounts of CBD. It means that even the slightest variation can have a massive impact.

In yet another study, Leafreport identified inaccuracies in CBD tinctures. Specifically, it revealed that some CBD oil products contain either more or less CBD than advertised. Experts in the cannabis industry recommend + or – 10% as the ideal amount of variance for CBD products.

Leafreport's primary aim is to provider greater transparency for consumers into a rapidly evolving CBD industry. According to Shafir, the CBD industry is not regulated correctly. As a result, there have been many complaints about companies selling products with little or no CBD at all. He adds that the above is a significant reason why third-party testing is essential.
