In Light Of Weedmaps Adopting A New Advertising Policy, It Will Avoid A Class-Action Lawsuit

Weedmaps, a community that enables consumers and businesses to search and find cannabis products, has announced that it is changing its advertising policy.

Under the new policy, the company will no longer allow black market businesses to advertise on its website. The press release indicates that the company will restrict the use of its points of sale, online orders, delivery logistics, and wholesale exchange software platforms to licensed operators only. The company is also looking at ways to make it easier for users for adult-use customers and patients to identify license numbers concerning advertised listings.

Chris Beals, the CEO of Weedmaps, stated in the press release,

“For too long, unjust laws and regulations have crippled small-business owners who want to make an honest living and provide safe, legal cannabis products to medical patients and adult use consumers. We hope to give a leg up to entrepreneurs that need and deserve support.” He added concerning the enhancements, “These enhancements to existing safeguards on our platform will help patients and adult-use consumers find cannabis retailers that have provided evidence of state licensure. It also underscores our commitment to working with lawmakers and regulators to foster a flourishing legal market.”

Rob Draper of High Grade Farms and whose customers use Weedmaps, stated to Fox 40 concerning the change “I want to say about 90% of our customer base finds out about us through Weedmaps, it’s huge.” He and his brother, the co-founder of High Grade Farms, believe that the announcement is overdue.

He added, “For us it’s great because we spend a lot of money on taxes and being compliant. In Los Angeles there are a lot of illegal operators, so it’s really hard for us to compete.”
