How Long Will CBD Remain Detectable in your Body’s System?

Many people are now using, or thinking about using, CBD to treat a variety of ailments and conditions. However, there is some question about how long CBD stays in your system or if it poses a risk of a positive drug test. Much of this concern is due to the lack of regulation and consistency that exists in the cannabis industry. The truth is that there is some risk of a positive drug test and so if this is something of great concern for you, then you should avoid using CBD. If this is not something of immediate concern, then it is worth it to know how long it will stay in your system, how it can be detected, and for what purposes.

For most drug tests, it is not the CBD that is the actual concern but rather the THC content. It is important to know that hemp-derived CBD can contain up to 0.3% THC legally. Products that state that they are “THC free” are often misleading. When third party lab reports state that no THC was detected, it just means that there was no THC detected above the lab’s detection limit. There could therefore still be trace amounts of THC below the lab’s limit. These trace amounts are not significant, but there is a risk that they can build up in the body over time and result in a positive drug test. This amount of time depends on a variety of factors including the individual, how often they use the product, how much they take, their weight as well as their metabolism.

Because there are so many factors, they determine how long it will take for any trace amounts of THC to leave your system. It also depends on what type of drug testing is being administered. As a general rule, for urine testing, it can take occasional users up to 3 days, moderate users up to 7 days, and regular users up to 15 days. For blood testing, it can take up to 25 days to leave your system. Saliva testing is a bit different and can take occasional users between 1 and 3 days and heavy users anywhere between 1 and 29 days. The longest testing of all is hair testing and it can take up to 90 days to clear from your system.

While there is no steadfast way to clear CBD from your system at a faster rate, some recommendations are to drink lots of water, exercise, and eat healthy. There are also “cleanse” or “detox” kits available for purchase, but these kits do not offer any guarantees. If you do test positive on a test, you can ask for a retest at a later date. It would also be beneficial to speak with a health care professional about your use of CBD products and how they can affect your system as well as your test results. If you are concerned about a positive drug test, the above-mentioned guidelines could be used to help you to prepare. It is important to note that everyone’s body is unique and so the results can vary. There are no guarantees but remaining properly informed as well as honest is always the best policy.
