One of the leading vertically integrated cannabis operators in the United States is getting involved in the efforts to bring cannabis to veterans. Curaleaf, according to press reports from PR Newswire, has already launched its initiative with an Oregon-based organization that advocates for veterans’ access to cannabis through the Department of Veterans Affairs – Veterans Cannabis Project.
With this initiative, consumers have the ability to purchase pre-roll products from the VCP with customized designs, and some of the proceeds are dedicated to the VCP itself. Each box includes five pre-rolls of UKU flower, totaling 2.5 grams. UKU flower is one of the top selling cannabis flowers in Oregon, and the entire box can be purchased for $13.
The president of the Oregon branch of Curaleaf, Tim Fitzpatrick, believes that it is important to his company’s cause to bring attention to the accessibility that veterans have for cannabis. He added that Curaleaf takes on a necessary role “by educating veterans and consumers on how cannabis may be of great benefit for veterans. We are proud to be able to support our veterans as they look to improve their quality of life.”
Doug Distaso, the executive director of VCP, is a veteran, and the discovery of how medical cannabis can help his life made him “grateful.” He stated that federal law presently makes the recommendation of cannabis as treatment for veterans an illegal act, but that policy “is something we are looking to change.” Distaso added “Our partnership with Curaleaf will help veterans gain legal access to cannabis.”
The VCP initiative was officially launched by Curaleaf in Maryland this year, though there are products presently available for consumers in Maine and Arizona as well. Ultimately, the company aims to continue bringing this program to dispensaries under Curaleaf in each state that has legalized cannabis in some way.
To get involved, consumers now are able to purchase customized pre-rolls from the Veterans Cannabis Project to support accessibility to cannabis for veterans. Visit https://www.curaleaf.com to learn more about the initiative and the Curaleaf brand.
