New CBS Video Showcases Hemp CBD Oil Industry Testing and Quality Control Lab in Florida

A recent news segment by CBS Miami featured answers to some of the most common questions concerning testing and quality control in the growing CBD and hemp industry.

At Evio Labs, quality control is the “name of the game.” The lab does not make or sell products, but tests them to ensure that they are safe for consumers. Due to the high demand, chemists may find themselves working sometimes seven days per week.

Chris Martinez, the co-founder and president of Evio Labs Florida reported that last year, the lab performed 35,000 labs. This year, he projects that the lab has already performed 71,000 this year.

Concerning regulations, he shared that they are fairly new. Before the regulations, there were even some products labeled as having CBD, when they did not contain any. Now though, the testing process entails seeing “how much CBD is in the product on the hemp product. You want to see that there is little to no THC in the product. And then you also want to see that there are no contaminants in it. So no pesticides, solvents, and microbial issues.”

Once the tests are complete, it creates a full report and sends it to the supplier. Customers should be able to request and receive a certificate of analysis to ensure that they are receiving what they are paying for.

Martinez also added that the state is taking a strong position on the hemp side to regulate it. Products should be tested at a very high level.

As for CBD, Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried shared with CBS Miami that CBD has the potential to be a $3 billion industry for the state, but quality and safety are key. These are important on the medical marijuana side as well.
