Kentucky-based HempWood is Using Hemp as a Wood Alternative, Replacing Oak Tree Lumber

HempWood, a hemp company based in Kentucky, has recently opened a new base in Murray. According to a local media outlet, the company is offering its clients alternatives to lumber and intends to use hemp in order to give its customers a more eco-friendly option.

The leader of the company, Greg Wilson, affirmed during the ceremony that the process to create logs based on hemp instead of using oak wood can cut down the environmental harm caused by using wood a lot.

He affirmed that hemp-based logs can be grown in around six months and are easy to replicate. The trees that are used for traditional lumber may take 100 to 200 years to grow, so they are not really a sustainable alternative in the long-term and they are very harmful to nature.

According to Wilson, the facility is expected to use over $1 million worth of materials yearly to create the logs. All the hemp used in the production of the wood will come from local farmers, which will heat the local economy.

Bob Jackson, president of Murray State University, will be a partner of this project. According to him, the idea is to have a really local company that will help the community to grow. The partnership between the university and the company is expected to create more jobs and offer internships to students as well.

This is all part of a larger trend. Since hemp started to be legal in the United States last year, several companies are rushing to use technology to create new products. HempWood is just one of many companies that are looking to be pioneers in this new space. Visit them @ https://hempwood.com for more information.
