Dietary Supplement Groups Send Letter To Congress For CBD Product Sales

Four major trade associations in the dietary supplement industry that represent the U.S. dietary supplement industry have announced that they have joined forces to urge Congress to provide legal clarity in the CBD product marketplace. The announcement appeared on the Consumer Healthcare Products Association webpage.

The report indicates that the four companies, American Herbal Products Association (AHPA), Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA), Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), and United Natural Products Alliance (UNPA) have joined forces and participated in the letter.

The full letter can be read on the CHPA webpage. The letter indicates, in part, that even thought the FDA is working to develop a policy on hemp-derived products, the process could take three to five years for even an expedited rule making process.

Given the growth of the CBD marketplace, it is crucial that Congress take quick action to provide clarification on the legal status of hemp-derived CBD supplements. The letter also indicates that it is “essential” for the FDA to have the resources necessary to protect the products from harmful CBD products.
