A recent press release report's that the Organic & Natural Health Association analyzed the adherence to Amazon’s policy prohibiting the sale of hemp products that contain CBD or cannabidiol.
The release indicates that those who search the term “CBD” in the search engine on the e-commerce website will find over 10,000 products. The Association picked out one product, called New Age Premium Hemp Oil, to test whether it is in-fact free of cannabidiol. To test the product, the Association hired an independent third-party lab called Alkemist Labs. The Lab has experience testing products for the presence of cannabinoids. The lab report showed that the product had 7.7 milligrams of CBD per 30 drops, which is equal to 1%.
Karen Howard, the CEO and executive director of Organic & Natural Health shared in the press release that Amazon does not permit the sale of CBD products on its website, and as a result, no reputable companies sell such products. She also stated therein that the Association started looking at Amazon’s selling practices when reputable companies were being denied the opportunity to sell their products on the website. Upon being denied, the retailer would inform the seller that the formula contains CBD or cannabidiol or full spectrum hemp products and that such are prohibited from being sold on the site.
She added,
“So basically, Amazon states it has banned the sale of CBD supplements on its site, but allows advertising and tagging of CBD instead, inviting an influx of products to consumers that the FDA has been warning about.”
The press release also indicates that Amazon has been vocal concerning the prohibition of the sale of counterfeit products. The company shared with USA Today that it invests heavily in prevention and takes proactive steps to “drive counterfeits to zero.” The company also reported that it works with and empowers brands through programs such as Brand Registry, Transparency, and Project Zero.
Howard added that the Association will continue to analyze the products on Amazon’s website.
