New York’s City Health Department has prohibited bars and eateries from serving CBD-infused food and beverages. A department spokesperson shared with the New York Post,
“Restaurants in New York City are not permitted to add anything to food or drink that is not approved as safe to eat. The Health Department takes seriously its responsibility to protect New Yorkers’ health. Until cannabidiol (CBD) is deemed safe as a food additive, the Department is ordering restaurants not to offer products containing CBD.”
Lawmakers are not sitting idly, though. Withdrop Roosevelt, a spokesman for City Councilman Mark Levine shared with the New York Post,
“We see it as kind of ironic that we are going after CBD while doing a legalization push for marijuana.”
He also stated that Levine, who is also a chair of the council’s health committee, is authoring a bill to legalize CBD.
