New Medical Cannabis Patient’s Travel Guide by Americans for Safe Access is Available

Americans for Safe Access (ASA) released a guide for patients taking medical cannabis. The guide relates to travel, so that patients can be aware of the laws concerning cannabis access.

There is a great deal of information in the guide, but one of the first section deals with things that medical cannabis patients should know before they travel. According to the guide, it is “important for patients to review the most up-to-date information for the jurisdiction(s) that they will be visiting, as laws and regulations are subject to change.” Another important point is that “it is important to remember that cannabis products cannot be taken out of the jurisdiction in which they were purchased.”

In addition, the guidance also provides users with information on how to safeguard their rights, using a retail dispensary, storing cannabis, helpful trips for travel, and particularities such as plains, trains, and automobiles. There is also a section on reciprocity. Those who are traveling for the holiday weekend may want to read through the guidance so that they can ensure that they are in as best of a condition as possible while they travel.

ASA Interim Debbie Churgari stated in an article of Safe Access Now about the guidance,

“Most people take for granted the ability to travel across state lines during a long holiday weekend. But for almost 3 million medical cannabis patients across the country, traveling can be a difficult undertaking. Many patients rely on their medicine every day, and since traveling across state lines with cannabis is a federal offense, patients need to plan ahead in order to know where they will be able to find medicine safely and legally.”
