Italy’s Ministry of Health issued a decree concerning a notification to the European Commission on THC limits in foods main from hemp's grain.
Luca Bucchini, the managing director of Hylobates Consulting, shared with NutraIngredients that the decree provides “legal certainty” to the use of some hemp derivatives such as seed oil, seeds, and hemp flour.
According to a recent study, the use of THC is not without risk. The scientific report was conducted by the European Food Safety Authority, and it assessed human exposure to THC. The study makes clear that it does “not prejudge” the legal status under European or national law concerning food products for which occurrence data have been provided. The study determined that the excessive consumption of THC can lead to complications, and that additional research is needed.
