Idaho Officials Approval Initial Steps Toward Marijuana Legalization’s 2020 Ballot

On Friday, August 9^th, 2019, the Idaho Cannabis Coalition (ICC) revealed that the state’s medical marijuana act of 2020 is officially certified for signature gathering, as found on their official Facebook page.

In particular, the Idaho Senator has since given his approval so that the Coalition can start gathering signatures for the petition that supports medical marijuana. Marijuana Moment also reported on this matter and indicated that in order for said topic to be introduced at the next election, a total of 55,057 valid signatures is required. Of the signatures, 6% needs to come from voters in 18 of the 35 districts in the state.

The news outlet since reached out to ICC’s spokesperson, Russ Belville, who shared that his father’s experience with chronic neuropathy and how cannabis tinctures provided him with utmost relief is what really started this endeavor.

Belville also expressed actions that were immediately into effect as soon as the approval was given. In particular, he said: “We have secured funding commitments for a professional signature gathering campaign,” adding that the entirety of medical marijuana acceptance is crucial given that existing polls show 3 in 4 Idaho residents are in support of it.

According to ICC, who responded to a question on Facebook regarding getting hold of a medical card if the medical marijuana law passes, they informed consumers by saying:

“You’d get documentation of your qualifying medical condition, have your doctor write a medical marijuana recommendation, turn it in to the state with an application and a fee and then you’d have your card for one year.”
