Cannabis Summit Hosted by Virginia Attorney General to Talk Legal Reform

In a recent Twitter post, Mark Herring, the Attorney General of Virginia, shared that “It's time for Virginia to decriminalize, address past convictions, and move toward legal, regulated adult use.”

He also linked a report to the Virginia Mercury, which indicates that he will be hosting a Cannabis Summit before the 2020 session. The session will include policymakers from states that have either legalized or decriminalized marijuana, and academics who deal with issues related to cannabis. The event will take place on December 11, 2019.

Moreover, the event will be hosted in conjunction with the state’s Virginia Cannabis Caucus, which has been recently formed and includes Senator Dave Marsden and Delegate Steve Heretick. The summit will also include four expert panels, which will touch on subjects such as marijuana decriminalization, social equity, CBD and hemp product regulations, and pathways towards legalization by way of legislative efforts.

Jenn Michelle Pedini, the executive director of Virginia NORML, referred to the summit as “unprecedented.”

She also added that the attorney general’s public support for advancing cannabis policy based on evidence and the recent formation of the Virginia Cannabis Caucus, have established the foundation for “robust and unprecedented exploration of real-world experiences” with regulation, legalization, and decriminalization in other states.
