New Cannabis Master’s Program at University of Maryland is Now Available

The University of Maryland has launched a new program, called a Masters of Science in Medical Cannabis Science and Therapeutics.

The program, according to the website, is two years long and is the nation’s first graduate program that is dedicated to the study of medical cannabis. The program is a combination of online instruction and face-to-face instruction so that students can receive the knowledge necessary to properly support patients and the medical cannabis industry. The program also touches upon existing research, and medical-cannabis policy.

As the website explains, the program is ideal for those who have completed a bachelor’s degree and have an interest in working in the medical cannabis industry.

In a report about the program on the University of Maryland’s website, Natalie D. Eddington, PhD, FCP, and FAAPS, the dean and professor at UMSOP shared that the program has been critically designed to prepare students to meet the growing demand for an educated workforce in the medical cannabis industry. Further, the program features innovations in instructional design throughout the curriculum and will provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to make a positive impact on communities in the country.

Further, Leah Sera, PharmD, MA, and BCPS, and assistant professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Sciences at UMSOP also shared in the report that it is an incredibly unique program. She continued that there is truly no other education program that offers in-depth instruction on the science, policy, therapeutics, and medical cannabis.

Those who decide upon this program, need not complete a thesis. Instead, students are required to complete a capstone course that includes a section of expert seminars, case studies, and discussions, according to the report.
